Lack of proper adoption of family planning methods among Nigerians leads to 610,000 abortions annually in Nigeria says jhpiego.

 

Addressing pressmen in Abuja on October 20, 2016, Emmanuel Otolorin, the country director of Jhpiego, an international non-profit health organization affiliated to Johns Hopkins University stated that 36 million abortions occur worldwide annually. And Nigeria accounts for 610,000 of the act.

 

Family Planning: FP2020 to host journalists on reproductive health

Ahead of the launch of “Momentum at the Midpoint 2015-2016’’, the Family Planning 2020’s (FP2020) has announced a telephone news conference on Nov. 1, to highlight the event.

 

The facilitators of the event, FP2020, said this in an invitation e-mailed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.

 

It explained that the briefing was designed to scale up stakeholders awareness on the FP2020 fourth annual progress report.

 

Nigeria requires $12m yearly for family planning, lifesaving drugs

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) says Nigeria requires between $12 million and $16 million yearly to procure family planning commodities and lifesaving drugs.

 

 

Of this figure, the Ministry of Health has pledged to budget $3 million for next year.Executive Director of the UNFPA, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin stated this in a statement at the end of his visit to Nigeria.

 

 

We can’t address maternal health without family planning – Minister

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has said that the issue of maternal health could not be addressed without tackling the issue of family planning.

The Minister stated this in Abuja Tuesday when he received a report on: “Maternal Health in Nigeria, A Situation Report,” which was presented by Chima O.Izugbara, Senior Research Scientist on Population Dynamics and Reproductive Health, African Population and Health Research Centre.
