Mimiko urges voters to insist on candidates’ maternal health policy
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has urged the voting populace to ensure that candidates for political office present in clear terms their manifestoes to improve the status of maternal health in the state.
Mimiko made the call in his keynote address at the ongoing ceremony of the 50th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of The Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) holding in Akure, so that the feats achieved over the years are not relegated to the background when they assume office.
He said his administration’s commitment to health care delivery is to make universal access to be affordable and qualitative healthcare service as an ultimate goal in improving maternal health in Nigeria.
Mimiko, a Honorary Fellow of SOGON who spoke on the theme: “The Politics of Maternal Health in Nigeria, Building A Legacy for the Future,” said investment in maternal health in Nigeria can only be driven and sustained by strong political commitment by the leadership.
According to him, the socio-economic rating of any nation is partly measured by its maternal health indication as instrument of development.
